He represented the Muvattupuzha (Lok Sabha Constituency) constituency of Kerala and is a member of the Kerala Congress (Thomas). He is the first person to be elected to the parliament from National Democratic Alliance in Kerala. It was one of the narrowest victory (lead 511 votes) in the history of Indian parliament election(2004).
